Construction is not seasonal—or at least it doesn’t have to be! Principle Projects have the in-house solutions for all of your cold weather construction challenges
Air Supported Dome
Winter work is a matter of fact in Alberta with most concrete work negatively affected by weather conditions (ambient <5OC) from typically October 15th thru April 30th. With half of the year’s weather hindering effective concrete placing cost effective and simple solutions need to be sought out.
Principle Projects has a different approach to a classic problem. Utilizing high volume fans and a specialty fabric we virtually eliminate winter conditions from the work front. Air pressure keeps the dome inflated not heat, which greatly reduces the amount of fuel spent on heaters for winter work.
Our largest to date is 45m x 45m with a 10m ceiling kept functional for over 3 months (Oct to Jan).
After seeing the impacts that weather poses on construction people always joke that you should do construction inside a bubble…we’ve taken them up on it. But what is it…? An air-supported (or air-inflated) structure is any building that derives its structural integrity from the use of internal pressurized air to inflate a pliable material (i.e. structural fabric) envelope, so that air is the main support of the structure. The interior air pressure required for air-supported structures is not as much as most people expect and certainly not discernible when inside. The amount of pressure required is a function of the weight of the material, wind pressure and snow load. But are they effective to install? We can typically have a dome completely constructed in five working days with a crew of six.
Stick Built Hoardings – sometimes the traditional way is the quickest and easiest. From temporary timber constructed hoardings to simply utilizing the formwork for the concrete and insulated tarps, we will put together a solution that will ensure your concrete is cured with quality in mind.
